Fashion Frustrations: Iga Ningi

For almost two weeks now, I’ve actually had a completed Ninja glamour that I never shared on here because I just wasn’t happy with it. It honestly looked great, but there was something bothering me about it that I couldn’t put my finger on. I unfortunately only have one screenshot of it (because I dismantled it yesterday):

For those keeping score: Dravanian Tunic of Scouting, Replica Allagan Gauntlets of Striking (Loam Brown Dye—you didn’t expect anything else at this point right?), Couerl Beach Tanga, Expeditioner’s Thighboots (Loam Brown Dye—no surprise here either I’m sure). The look works well in a lot of ways. The sheath for the knife on the Expeditioner’s Thighboots matches just a tiny bit of orange trim on the Dravanian Tunic, and it creates a really nice look.

Of course, I’m a bit tired of using the same pieces over and over, so that played into some of my dissatisfaction with this one. But, yesterday, I came to realize that my actual problem was that I wasn’t using the Iga Ningi anymore.

Every time I saw someone using it, I would get a little jealous subconsciously, and seeing another miqo’te with it in white the other day really made that obvious to me. There’s just something about it that works, and no other body options I can think of do that for Ninja—for me, anyway, obviously.

But the problem is that I can’t seem to do much of anything with it. I actually don’t care for anything else in the set (with the exception of the Iga Zukin, but I don’t like covering my face). I like it best in Pure White, but grey isn’t a good color for gloves and boots, and I have a really hard time finding a leg piece of any sort that I think meshes properly with it.

The original Ninja AF doesn’t really work the new set, nor do the Fuma pieces from Labyrinth of the Ancients. I really wish the team had made the Amatsu Tekko and Amatsu Sune-Ate (from the FFXI crossover event several months back) dyable, as they’d at least give me the potential for something vaguely “Japanese” that might work with the Ningi. I’d love to have some of the variety and styles in such equipment options that FFXI had, but for now, we’ve really got very little to work with, and it makes Ninja glamours a total pain for me. (I have similar trouble with Monk glamours, but since it’s not my main, nor is it Alahra’s “canon” job, I don’t fret nearly as much about it.)

Despite my frustrations, I’m back on the very first glamour I showcased here on Fashion Ninjutsu. If you’re interested in seeing the full list of parts, head to my inaugural post. Thus far, this is the only way I’ve been able to get the Ningi work with the available options in Pure White, though I promise it hasn’t been for lack of trying. I’m probably going to settle on this for now until we see some new equipment options—if I’m lucky, in 3.3, we’ll get something new that will finally complete the puzzle for me.

Hopefully, I can fix this up before actually attempting the 3.3 Main Scenario Quests, as running through the 3.2 ones with this look just didn’t feel quite right. I need more appropriate companion pieces for the Ningi itself before I’m going to be truly satisfied. So here’s to the future, I suppose: or more appropriately, please look forward to it.
