Glamour Spotlight: Scouting DPS #4

Amid all my excitement about the 3.3 Patch Notes, I actually did manage to do some glamour work over the weekend heading into the patch. Most importantly, I settled on a new Ninja glamour, and after going through the 3.3 Main Scenario, I’m quite happy with it.

Glamour Components
Head: (none) | Body: Replica Allagan Cuirass of Striking (Metallic Silver Dye) | Hands: Replica Allagan Gauntlets of Striking (Metallic Silver Dye) | Legs: Lady’s Knickers (Black)Feet: Eikon Leather Thighboots of Scouting (Jet Black Dye)

As I mentioned last week, something felt off about my previous glamour relative to the Main Scenario, and I pinned the blame largely on the Lady’s Knickers. As it turns out, though, I don’t think that was the whole story, since I’m using them again and nothing felt particularly out of place for me. I suspect the difference is that the Allagan Cuirass doesn’t leave them nearly as visible as the Iga Ningi does. That being said, I resisted using them for awhile, trying to find a solid pair of pants that would give me the right blend of silver and black, but I didn’t have any luck.

What finally made the Cuirass click for me was the switch to Metallic Silver. Prior to using it, I had been experimenting with the Ningi in silver like I have before, since Pure White has always given me such trouble. In general, I’m not a fan of how the Cuirass dyes: most of the colors don’t work well with other pieces once they’re forced into metallic shades, but Metallic Silver doesn’t have that issue, naturally. Of course, the Allagan Gauntlets were an easy choice here alongside their companion body piece.

Boots proved difficult, as usual, though. I knew I didn’t want to use the Allagan Sollerets of Striking, since I was already using two pieces for the set, and besides that, I don’t generally care for how bulky they are—at least not for Ninja glamours. The Expeditioner’s Thighboots didn’t quite fit—the brown leather on the knife was probably the culprit, but they’ve also just got too much black. I needed a pair of boots with a good balance of black and silver to key off of the rest of the pieces.

I removed the glamour from my boots (which were the Eikon Leather ones at the time) and dyed them black just to have something that didn’t really clash while I ran around for the weekend. By the time I logged out on Sunday evening, they were starting to grow on me, though, and so I went full steam ahead into 3.3 with them. After the wonderful Main Scenario (and running through the new dungeons—the Katon buff is amazing), I was completely sold.

I do have my eye on a couple things from 3.3, though. The new dungeon set for Ninja is apparently white, so I’m anxious to collect each piece and see if I can come up with something that I like. The new crafted Dreadwyrm Cyclas also has my attention, and depending on how it dyes, I could see using it, as well. But I’ll wait awhile before dropping the gil to get the materials for it, I think.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to get back to Patch 3.3!
