Glamour Spotlight: Casters #6

The best thing about being Maelstrom is that we get the best looking Grand Company gear. Outside of a couple specific examples (such as some of the Flame Elite’s stuff), the Maelstrom gear is almost always the best of any given selection of Company items. I’m not sure what it is, in most cases: I suppose it’s just because red and black is just a really solid color combination, especially for glamours. I know more than one person who’s switched to Maelstrom just for a particular piece of gear (even back in 2.0, the Lominsan Soldier’s/Officer’s boots were very popular).

For the new Lieutenant’s Gear, Maelstrom did pretty well for itself again. I got the Jacket a few days ago after getting my Squadron past the level 40 rank up mission, and I’ve been using it as a casual idle set for around town, but I also wanted to use it for a glamour of some kind. It’s definitely not a particularly melee-oriented piece, proving a much better fit for a healer or caster glamour. Given the reds, blacks, and grays that are common on caster gear, it was pretty natural that I ended up going to caster to use the jacket more permanently.

Overall, very little changed from my last caster glamour here. Since the Evenstar Tights don’t go with a lot, I decided to keep them, since the red matched the lining on the Jacket, and since I prefer the Scion Healer’s boots to the Lominsan Officer’s ones alongside them, I kept those, too. I thought the coat really needed glasses, too—since it looks kind of professional—so I didn’t bother looking for new ones there either!

The biggest difference outside of the body is the gloves: it’s quite rare that I like sleeve designs in FFXIV, but the ones on this Jacket are very nice, so I didn’t want to hide them with larger gloves. The Strife Gloves had the right sort of texture to go along with the boots without covering the cuffs on the sleeves. I considered the Claws of the Beast, but the coat just seems too prim and proper to really work with those.

Starting Wednesday, with All Saint’s Wake starting, I’m planning to do at least a few seasonal glamours. Most of them are probably gonna be a bit tongue-in-cheek (and I can’t imagine any of them will last past the season), but it’ll be something different!
