Full Stormblood Trailer & Samurai!

I’m sure most people who read this blog already know the big news from the weekend, but just in case you haven’t seen it, the full Stormblood trailer was released at the Frankfurt FanFest:

The second half of the trailer reveals one very big surprise: in addition to going liberating Ala Mihgo, we’re apparently going to attempt to liberate Doma as well! That means going to the Far Eastern continent of Othard, which I couldn’t be more excited about, as it’s not something we ever really got to do in FFXI (you can go to Reisenjima now, but we never got to see any of the cities or anything of the sort). Along with that, we’re getting a Far Eastern housing zone, and, though it’s not really a surprise, Samurai!

As I thought, we’re only getting two jobs for Stormblood, both of them DPS. I got some of the details wrong, though: for Red Mage, they’re a full on casting class rather than a melee support class like Ninja; for Samurai, I assumed they would share Maiming gear with Dragoon, but as it turns out they’re going to be on Striking gear. That excites me to no end, as I’ve always vastly preferred the later-era Samurai aesthetic (I was a huge nerd for Rurouni Kenshin in high school), and I’ve already started pondering what my first, level 50 glamour will be for Samurai in 4.0.

I have no idea what I’m going to do in the end yet, but I’ve been playing around with options for awhile now.just to have an outlet for some of that Samurai hype. Right now, I’m really partial to the Darklight Corselet of Striking (here dyed Dalamud Red), which is something I haven’t used in ages (the last time I used it was pre-glamour when it was actually an upgrade for my Monk). Right now I’m mostly pondering body pieces, but one thing I’m also pretty sure of is that whatever body I end up with I also want to use the Kirimu Sandals of Striking.

Right now I’ve been leaning on red as a color, because I assumed I would be using Amatsu pieces as well, but the more I think on them I’m not sure that I’ll go there, since I expect that they’ll be a pretty common choice, especially in the level 50 range where I can’t imagine we’ll have much that specifically says “Samurai.” I’ll probably post at least one official Samurai glamour prior to Stormblood’s launch (well, Monk and Samurai will be combined, more or less, the way I usually do Bard and Machinist). I may also do one for Red Mage, since I’ll want some kind of a look for it at level 50, too.

Anyway, that’s it for today I think! I’ve been pondering Dragoon glamours and I got something I might want to play around with, so I’m going to try to have a new Maiming glamour up some time this week.
