So, I went and turned myself into a liar. Not long ago, I thought had finalized both of my level 50 glamours for Red Mage and Samurai. Neither glamour was perfect, but I felt satisfied enough with them that I could comfortably put them in the back of my mind and focus on wrapping things up prior to the beginning of Stormblood‘s Early Access period. I found myself with more free time than I imagined I would have, though, and as my mind normally does, it wandered to glamour things while I was idling, which resulted in new glamours for both of them.
Casters
For that last Red Mage glamour, I was really unhappy with the brown leather on basically every piece. Nothing was wrong with it, exactly, but with Alahra’s Heavensward aesthetic settling so definitively on black and white color schemes, it kept bugging me, so on Monday, I decided to at least fiddle around for a while and see if I couldn’t figure something else out.
Glamour Components
Head: Elegant Rimless Glasses (Jet Black) | Body: Strife Vest (Pure White) | Hands: Strife Gloves | Legs: Common Makai Priestess’ Skirt | Feet: Expeditioner’s Thighboots (Jet Black)
I’ve been really trying to make the Strife Vest work for Red Mage for a long time. It’s tricky because of limited options before level 60, and I’ve had a lot of issues finding a good combination for the legs and feet for it that can be worn at level 50. I’m not sure if I just never tried the Makai Priestess’ Skirt or if something about my perception of it changed, because once I put it on with the Vest in white, I knew it worked. The rest pretty much fell into place as you might expect.
Striking DPS
For Samurai, the work actually started on Sunday (but I’m working in alphabetical order here, not chronological!). I was pretty happy with the last glamour when I finished it up, but something about the purple accents was starting to get to me over the weekend. I mentioned when I talked about the look originally that it seemed to work pretty well for Ninja also, and I think that was the rub—because purple is such a common color on Scouting gear, I associated it with Ninja more than anything else. Thankfully, though, there was a pretty straightforward alternative for Monk and Samurai.
Glamour Components
Head: Elegant Rimless Glasses (Dalamud Red) | Body: Saurian Shirt of Striking (Pure White) | Hands: Replica Allagan Gauntlets of Striking (Jet Black) | Legs: Storm Elite’s Trousers | Feet: Scion Healer’s Highboots
I’ve almost always used the Saurian Shirt in Jet Black, so I had actually all but forgotten that it has quite a bit of black even in its base color scheme, which makes it fit in pretty well with the Storm Elite’s Trousers. With the red trim on the shirt being kind of on its own, I swapped in the Scion Healer’s Highboots and dyed the glasses red instead of gold so that it had something to play off of. Even then, I did have to sit on this one for a little bit to make sure I was okay with the placement on the red—it took seeing the glamour in motion for it to come together in my mind properly.
Since it’s Tuesday, we’ve only got one more real day before Stormblood, so whether I like it or not, these two are my final starter glamours for the expansion’s two new jobs. I’m planning to start with Samurai, and with this improved glamour I’m probably twice as excited as I was before. Three more days!
