Glamour Spotlight: Bard #9

The last time I posted a glamour for Bard wasn’t so long ago, but I did admit in that one that I had a new glamour lined up. Thankfully, I had a Dark Knight glamour in the wings, too, so that I didn’t have to post something for the same class two posts in a row and can now post this one guilt free! I actually put this one together before that DRK glamour that went up last time, but variety is good (and also, I’m really happy with how Alahra looks as a Dark Knight right now anyway).

I mentioned a little while ago that I wanted to use the Serge Gambison for Bard (which, of course, after all the times I’ve used it for Red Mage already, shouldn’t be a surprise), but its dyeing pattern tripped me up a bit. There’s a dark purple that sticks around that’s rather prominent, and my original thought had been to work around that (with something like this much older Bard glamour in mind). That didn’t work out though, and so my Pure White Serge Gambison had been sitting on my retainer until the day I truly needed it.

Glamour Components (Required Level: BRD 66)
Head: Augmented Choral Chapeau (Jet Black)
Body: Serge Gambison of Aiming (Pure White)
Hands: Marid Leather Gloves of Aiming (Jet Black)
Legs: Makai Markswoman’s Quartertights
Feet: Scion Healer’s Highboots

As it turns out, I think the Arhat Togi glamour actually paved the way for this one. Since I was already wearing the Scion Healer’s Highboots when I got the Gambison back out to play around with it, I immediately noticed that the Gambison has just a little bit of red that sticks around, something I hadn’t noticed the last time I used it. The main trouble I had with it previously was deciding which boots to use. Nothing looked quite right, and that had kept me from committing to it.

With the boots and the Gambison now in place, I did the simple thing and went with the Quartertights (much as I’ve done for Red Mage), and naturally I wasn’t going to just abandon the classic Chapeau (I’m actually really disappointed that Alahra looks weird in the new Storyteller’s Chapeau, but maybe it will look better dyed once that option is available). From there, all I had to do was pick some gloves, and after a bit of experimentation, I arrived at the conclusion that Bard’s best option here were the Marid Leather ones, since they’re designed with the Gambison in mind.

This glamour has actually made me sour on the Casting version of the Gambison a little bit, as I like the wider variety of colors in the Aiming version. I’ve been pondering other ideas for a Red Mage look since putting this one together, so I’d expect I’ll have a new one soon. I’m also thinking about stuff for Paladin; I recently picked up some of the i320 crafted gear for it, and that’s got me wanting something new. We’ll see whether I find anything, since tank glamours are always so tricky.
