Glamour Spotlight: Monk #7

After I decked out Lynahra in the Augmented Shire Pankratiast’s Jacket, it started to bug me that Alahra was also using it for Monk (since she was still wearing the last glamour I put together for it in Heavensward). I don’t like to use the same things between them too often—part of what’s fun about having alts is that they tend to develop their own glamour styles. Since Lynahra looks better in bulkier stuff thanks to her larger size (at least, that’s what I think the deal is), I figured Alahra needed something new for Monk, which I worked on a bit over the weekend.

I experimented with a number of things, mostly just hoping to strike inspiration. I knew I wanted something a bit less bulky, and the first thing I put real effort into was the Replica Allagan Cuirass, but I definitely feels like a Ninja body piece to me ever since I used it for one of my favorite Heavensward glamours. I’ve had other things (like the Picaroon’s Trousers and Warwolf Kecks) in mind since I’m also casting about for something new for Samurai, but none of those really grabbed my attention either. After a little while, I realized I didn’t want to get away from the Griffin Leather Bracers and Highboots combo that so made Alahra’s Shire Jacket look, which gave me a bit more direction.

Glamour Components (Required Level: MNK 60)
Head: Scintillant Circlet of Striking (Dalamud Red)
Body: Melee Cyclas
Hands: Griffin Leather Bracers of Striking
Legs: Makai Manhandler’s Quartertights
Feet: Scion Healer’s Highboots

Once I knew I wanted to keep the same core, I started diving through the piles of gear on my retainers, looking for a body piece that fit in. Perhaps out of nostalgia, I honed in on the Augmented Temple Cyclas, which has always looked good on Alahra. In this case though, since the natural color would have been Dalamud Red, that didn’t work out—the resulting pink trim seemed rather out of place with all of the other pieces. Once I got that far, though, the next step was easy: I remembered that the other model of the Cyclas has bits of black and red, just enough to play off the black and red of the Highboots and Bracers.

With the body piece decided, finding options for the Legs and Head wasn’t especially difficult. The Quartertights are another staple and work much better with the Cyclas than the Lady’s Knickers that I’ve used in the past with it. I considered going with the Augmented Temple Circlet (since I was already in Monk-specific territory) or the Melee one (but that got quashed when I realized I didn’t have it or the Antique Helmets necessary to pick it up). The feather on the Temple Circlet didn’t look good in red, though, so I went with the less prominent Scintillant Circlet instead.

Though I usually  don’t go for yellow, this look’s been growing on me ever since I put it together. Unfortunately, it’s not likely to see much use for the time being. I’ve been working on Monk off and on for the last couple of weeks, and I finally hit 64, excited to have what I thought was a readily accessible Greased Lightning extension (Riddle of Earth), useful in fights like the second boss of Shisui of the Violet Tides. Little did I know that the extension only triggers if you take damage, which really limits its utility, especially in most dungeons (which is all I’m ever likely to play Monk in). I’m sure I’ll come back to Monk eventually, but for now I’m probably going to move on to other classes.
