I’ve been looking for a new Paladin (or general tank) glamour ever since I put together a Lynxliege glamour to use while leveling Dark Knight. Unfortunately, Stormblood hasn’t added much in the way of tank gear that I like. I’ve been using the new Tigerskin Coat of Fending for quite awhile now, and while that’s not a bad look, I’m not truly happy with the way it dyes. The other main body piece from Stormblood that I like, the Doman Steel Tabard of Fending, also dyes poorly, so I’ve not been able to find a use for it, which really bugs me, since it’s otherwise the exact sort of tank gear I’ve been clamoring for.
That’s left me without anything especially new for Paladin, but since I liked the Lynxliege getup I put together for Dark Knight, and there’s a lot about the Paladin version of the set, the Lionliege armor, over the Lynxliege stuff, I thought I’d see how something similar would work for Paladin. I didn’t end up having to do as much differently as I thought I might, when it came down to it.
Glamour Components (Required Level: PLD 50)
Head: Elegant Rimless Glasses (Dalamud Red)
Body: Lionliege Cuirass
Hands: Lionliege Gauntlets
Legs: Storm Elite’s Skirt
Feet: Scion Healer’s Highboots
As you can see, the only things that changed here from the Dark Knight version of the look were the swaps to the Paladin pieces for the body and hands slots. Initially, I thought I was going to have to do a lot more work, as the Lionliege set doesn’t have the prominent red that the Lynxliege one does, which suggested I’d not be able to use the Storm Elite’s Skirt or the Scion Healer’s boots. There are a couple spots of red on the body (small enough that they’re barely visible), but hardly enough to work with.
However, another problem with the Lionliege set is that the metal on it doesn’t match anything else at all, which means that finding a weapon (and more especially, a shield) to go along with it is a challenge. After casting about for a bit, I decided to just go with the Lionliege Blade and Shield, both of which just happen to have a (somewhat sinister) red glow. That gave me enough red to work with that the Skirt and Highboots seemed to fit in just fine, and I didn’t see any reason to change the glasses from the other look.
Having finished this one, I really wish I could have a version of the Dark Knight set that has the same colors (I love the prominent red accents on it) but without the halfskirt on the back, like the Paladin body piece. For now, though (and well, probably forever, since I can’t imagine we’ll ever see these models used again), I’ll have to settle for having the two glamour variants on each job.
We’re closing in on Patch 4.1, with a Live Letter coming this weekend, and the patch itself soon after. I’ve been mulling over my thoughts on the 4.0 Patch itself, and I think sometime over the next week, I’ll collect some of those here. I’m also mid-glamour process for both Bard and Ninja, as I got inspiration for both of them a few days ago. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to finish those before the patch or not, though!
