Glamour Spotlight: Black Mage #2

I generally try not to do two glamours in a row of the same gear type, but sometimes I can’t help myself! While I’ve started working on Astrologian more actively, I did a run on Black Mage this week to help my S.O. catch her Machinist up to my AST’s level (since I generally don’t like to level sync if I can avoid it). In the process, for whatever reason, I got the glamour bug, and decided to work out something new. I still had the Halonic Exorcist’s Thighboots in mind from Wednesday’s glamour (which I couldn’t use for Black Mage yet since it’s not level 66), so I decided to give those another go (with the corresponding Gloves, too).

Black Mage’s Heavensward AF provides a pair of pants I’ve always liked, so I went with those for a start, which led me to a profile similar to one of my earliest caster glamours from the first expansion. Finding tops that go with the Goetia Chausses from the AF is always tricky, and since we were in the middle of a leveling marathon, I didn’t want to spend a great deal of time digging around my retainers. For the sake of expediency, I stuck to the Archaeoskin Jackcoat of Gathering from that glamour, and to start with, I dyed it Woad Blue to match the blue on the Halonic Exorcist’s Gloves. After a run of Shisui of the Violet Tides, though, I wasn’t really happy with the look, and I figured I’d discard it and forget all about it.

But then I made a simple change of color, and everything clicked.

Glamour Components (Required Level: BLM 60)
Weapon: Sharpened Rod of the Black Khan (Replica)
Head: Elegant Rimless Glasses (Ul Brown)
Body: Archaeoskin Jacket of Gathering (Jet Black)
Hands: Halonic Exorcist’s Gloves
Legs: Goetia Chausses (Jet Black)
Feet: Halonic Exorcist’s Thighboots

Once I dyed the body piece Jet Black, the whole look popped for me, making it very obvious that my first attempt was simply trying to include too many colors. I often like to aim for three in a given look, but sometimes sticking to two primary ones works a lot better. Normally, I wouldn’t leave the blue on the Gloves without anything to key off of, but the only other spot for blue would have been the glasses, and that didn’t work so well. It does help a little bit that the Rod of the Black Khan has a blue-white glow, though.

I actually like this one enough that I’m very nearly tempted to work on Black Mage instead of Astrologian next, but since I’m trying to avoid double DPS queues, I think I’ll be sticking with Astrologian for the time being. I could see myself doing Black Mage next over Monk, though, as I find this one much more pleasing than my last Monk glamour. Of course, that assumes I don’t come up with a better look for Monk between now and getting Astrologian to 70!
