Glamour Spotlight: Ninja #11

In the last Spotlight, I mentioned wanting to get a new Ninja glamour going for the Main Scenario in Patch 4.2 as usual, but I wasn’t actually sure I was going to be able to get that done in time before Patch Day. It’s actually been quite some time since I’ve gotten any new gear for Ninja that was glamour worthy, which made it a bit difficult to really decide that there was a better way to go. But I did very much want to avoid cosplaying Lyse in the cutscenes, and so I’d been spending a bit of every day in the lead up to the Patch trying to find something I liked.

It took me a really long time to settle on where I even wanted to go with a new look. At first, I thought perhaps I’d try to do something new with the Augmented Shire Emissary’s Jacket, but I couldn’t figure out anything there. Then I moved on to the Kudzu Tunic of Scouting, but it’s hard to do anything drastically different from the look I put together early in Stormblood, which didn’t strike me as particularly exciting. After that, I thought I should try to use the Antiquated Kage-kakushi Chainmail—after all, we’re in the Stormblood Artifact Armor era now—and that very nearly made the cut. Something about the new Chainmail didn’t seem right for now, though, and that ultimately brought me back to the profile of the Iga Ningi, which seems to suit Alahra much better overall.

Glamour Components (Required Level: NIN 70)
Weapon: (Replica) Sharpened Spurs of the Thorn Prince
Head: Elegant Rimless Glasses (Royal Blue)
Body: (Antiquated) Iga Ningi
Hands: Ala Mhigan Fingerless Gloves of Scouting(Royal Blue)
Legs: Werewolf Tail (Jet Black)
Feet: Augmented Shire Emissary’s Thighboots (Jet Black)

One big problem that’s always given me trouble with the Iga Ningi is that it doesn’t play so well with most available leg options for Alahra’s normal style. Without some version of the Makai Manhandler’s Quartertights for Ninja, the only decent options for shorts are the Lady’s Knickers, which aren’t dyeable, or the Expeditioner’s Pantalettes, which are dyeable but include brown leather straps that really clash with the Ningi. I’ve tried various things in the past, but I’ve always gotten dissatisfied eventually and moved on to something else.

While I’m not certain that won’t happen this time, I’m happy to say that the Werewolf Tail works pretty well for a similar style. It serves very well for an “adventuring” skirt, and the small slits on it actually sort of match the gaps around the collarbones on the Ningi—which is a small but cool type of symmetry that I always like to see in glamour set ups. Sadly, when dyed Pure White, it doesn’t mesh quite as well with the Ningi in the same color, so I’m still on the hunt for something to use alongside the body piece in Alahra’s preferred color, but it’s not like she looks bad in black (and honestly, she usually looks better in that than she does in white).

The Ala Mhigan Fingerless Gloves in Royal Blue work really well with the Ningi in its default color scheme, which has extra blue to work with on the chainmail sleeves, and I definitely prefer them to the Serpentskin Bracers that I’ve used in the past. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find something quite so perfect for the boots. What I’d really like is dyeable Scion Healer’s Highboots (with the dye changing only the color of the soles), so I could dye them Royal Blue and use them with the Ningi forever. Unfortunately, we’re not so lucky. Overall, I felt the Emissary’s Thighboots fit better than the Expeditioner’s ones, since the knife on the Expeditioner’s boots didn’t fit in with the rest of the colors.

The final and expected choice was to add in the Elegant Rimless Glasses. When I’m planning to do a lot of cutscenes, I always like to have them glamoured, as Alahra’s face now usually looks weird to me without them. I’m sure this final look will get me through the Main Scenario and Sigmascape storylines just fine, and honestly, after looking at what gear previews we’ve gotten, I actually don’t see any future Ninja glamours coming until Eureka is launched and we can (hopefully) get dyeable Stormblood Artifact sets.
