Patrons Only Spotlight #8: Tanks

For your monthly Patron Only glamours, I make a point of trying to use pieces I haven’t used often (or at all), so that I can both broaden my horizons a bit and offer you all something unique for as a way to say thanks for all the support you’ve given the site. For this month’s special Spotlight, I got to use a couple new pieces, glamour for Warrior, which I don’t often focus on for Alahra, and on top of that, put together a nice lightly-armored tank glamour—something I’ve often tried to pull off but only rarely managed to any real satisfaction. As an added bonus, this Spotlight marks the first one that makes use of my new Portrait Studio.

Glamour Components (Required Level: DRK/PLD/WAR 50)
Weapon: (Replica) High Allagan Battleaxe
Head: Flat Cap (Dalamud Red)
Body: Scion Liberator’s Jacket
Hands: (Replica) High Allagan Gauntlets of Fending
Legs: Guardian Corps Skirt
Feet: (Replica) High Allagan Sabatons of Fending

I noticed some time ago that the red on the High Allagan Gauntlets of Fending paired up really nicely with the Scion Liberator’s Jacket, but for the life of me I couldn’t manage to figure out the rest of the look, so it’s taken me until now to get around to it. Looking at the list of items, it probably looks like it was all really easy. After all, wouldn’t the High Allagan Sabatons be the obvious choice here? That was what I assumed from the beginning, but I’ve never actually liked them, because they’ve simply got too much red compared to the Gauntlets.

So, in essence, I created a problem for myself: I wanted to use the Gauntlets, couldn’t dye them (because they lose the red that matches the Jacket if you do that), and didn’t want to use the corresponding Sabatons. That left me scrounging around for different options for footwear for weeks. I tried everything I could think of: the Replica Heavy Allagan Flanchard (which wasn’t light enough and didn’t match the color of the Gauntlets anyway), the Scion Liberator’s Highboots (which weren’t heavy enough), the Expeditioner’s Thighboots (which needed some red to work), and a two or three full perusals of options on the Market Board. Nothing felt right, and I very nearly threw up my hands in defeat for this one.

As a sort of last ditch effort, I glamoured the High Allagan Sabatons to see if I could get used to them (since they do work, after all), and I started looking at headgear to see if I could find something that would maybe complete the look in an unexpected way. In one of those moments of serendipity, I found the Flat Cap I had used for Fashion Report not long ago, still dyed Dalamud Red, and once I tried it on, everything just clicked. The brown on the hat worked really well with all the straps on the Jacket and the brown of the Guardian Corps Skirt that I was already using. More importantly, though, a red hat provided that extra bit of red needed to make the Sabatons not stick out so much. As one final touch, I glamoured the High Allagan Battleaxe just to make sure everything was nice and unified.

I think I might actually end up leveling Warrior off and on because of this glamour now that I’ve got it all completed. It’s definitely not really my normal style for tanks, since I normally don’t like to see such light-armored stuff for them. But, it’s fitting enough for Warrior in particular, and I have to admit that I’m really loving the way Alahra looks in the hat! I’ve never actually used it before, since it’s a bit too puffy for my tastes, but something about it just works here, and that’s really cool!

That does it for this month’s Patron Only spotlight! Don’t forget to vote for next month’s (it looks like tanks are winning again already) as well, and thanks as always for all of your support!
