Patrons Only Spotlight #9: Scouting DPS

I’ve had a fascination with “biker” glamours for Alahra as far back as A Realm Reborn, which began during the 2.4 Patch, where we got the Picaroon’s Trousers of Scouting. Of course, this was also the same Patch that Ninja was added, of course, so I tried out a lot of different styles. I highlighted one of the ones that stuck out for me the most some time ago on the site, but in the long term, that glamour’s never had quite the flair that I wanted it to have. The various gathering jackets have always been a little plain, and sadly we’ve only ever gotten one additional take on the model (Heavensward‘s Wyvernskin Jerkin), which never seemed to work for Ninja to me.

Eureka has opened up a lot of new glamour possibilities for every class, though, with the addition of the all classes Anemos Jacket, which is a recolor (and slight remodel) of the formerly Bard- and Gatherer-only model that we first saw in Sohr Kai as the Wrangler’s Jacket. Thankfully, it’s also rather easy to get, as the lockbox drop rates tend to be very generous when it comes to these all class recolors, and I got one sometime within the first couple days of Patch 4.25. I saw the potential for a new Ninja glamour immediately, thinking back to those older attempts from A Realm Reborn.

Glamour Components (Required Level: NIN 54)
Weapon: (ReplicaSasuke’s Blades (Rust Red)
Head: Elegant Rimless Glasses (Rust Red)
Body: Anemos Jacket (Soot Black)
Hands: Replica Allagan Gauntlets of Striking (Rust Red)
Legs: Ramie Trousers of Scouting (Jet Black)
Feet: Songbird Boots

But, as with so many other things, the Anemos Jacket dyes somewhat strangely, basically dyeing in the reverse of how you would expect. Rather than the Jacket taking on the primary color, the undershirt does, with the jacket taking on the darker color associated with the chosen dye. That meant I couldn’t go Pure White like I would have preferred, since the Jacket looked rather drab in the grey that comes along with my favorite dye. Most other colors didn’t work well either, as the prominent patch of reddish-brown leather on the back of the coat tends to clash with options.

That actually lead me toward a color scheme largely matching the one of the glamour I linked up at the beginning of the post (with many of the accompanying pieces being the same, too, which was a bit of a bummer!). As with the Toadskin Jerkin, I had to go with Soot Black on the Anemos Jacket, since the “darkest” black always sticks out in a really odd way to me. Soot Black still more or less makes the Jacket itself Jet Black, which means that it can still pair just fine with the Ramie Trousers (and Soot Black also makes the undershirt better match the undyeable black parts of the Allagan Gauntlets).

I did try to find a different pair of gloves or gauntlets to use with the Jacket, and I really would have loved to use the Foestriker’s Mitts especially. In most lighting they match the Jacket really well, but when I took the glamour into my studio for shots, I realized they’re actually a much different shade, and I couldn’t stick with them anymore. I couldn’t find any wrist gloves or bracers that I liked in combination with the Jacket either, so that meant sticking with the staple Allagan Gauntlets (but I do think other classes will have some nice options to use that I’ll probably explore as time goes on).

As it turns out, this one actually didn’t last long enough for me to get it written up and posted for you all, though! I picked up the Scorpion Harness from Eureka not long after I put this one together, and out of nostalgia I had to try it out for Ninja. I’m still finalizing that glamour, but I’ll probably be posting it sometime this week. I wanted to make sure to get this one up first, though, since I’ve taken a lot longer than I usually do for this month’s Patron Only Glamour!
