It’s July now, of course, which actually means I’m slightly late on this one, but I did have my patrons vote on the race and gender for my next Fantasia last month. The results ended in a 5-way tie, so I had to throw in the deciding vote. After some ruminating on the matter, going to female roegadyn for a little while stuck out to me the most, and ultimately that’s where I decided to go for this one. The recent release of the Faerie Princess’s Attire put a bit of a wrench in my plans, though, and I wasn’t able to get around to designing my first attempt at a roegadyn until recently.
Once I finally got around to that, though, I decided pretty quickly that I’d be doing a Dragoon glamour for this one. Alahra looks pretty awkward in a lot of Dragoon armor, much like she does in tank stuff, because so much of it just fits miqo’te frames poorly, and I thought, in particular, that the High Allagan Cuirass of Maiming would work much better on a female roegadyn than it does on a miqo’te. I quickly found, however, that it dyes rather poorly, and turned my attention toward another body piece instead…
Glamour Components (Required Level: DRG 60)
Weapon: (Augmented) Ironworks Magitek Spear
Head: Reading Glasses (Wine Red)
Body: Chivalric Coat/Adamantite Pauldroncoat of Maiming (Pure White)
Hands: Replica Allagan Gauntlets of Maiming (Jet Black)
Legs: Storm Elite’s Trousers
Feet: Scion Healer’s Highboots
I’ve always been a big fan of the Chivalric Coats for Dragoon and tanks from Heavensward, but because they look a bit strange on miqo’te due to the very old problem of their wide stance making most heavy coats balloon out in bad ways, I never did more with them outside of briefly using the tank version in the early days of being level 60 on a tank. While browsing the Market Board for inspiration, I tried on the Dragoon version of the Coat, and I was instantly struck by how much better it fit on a roegadyn frame compared to how it does on a miqo’te one.
The Coat also looked absolutely fantastic in Pure White (how had I never noticed that before?!), and that made the rest of the selection process rather straightforward for me. It’s always difficult for me to justify another pair of gauntlets for Dragoon, since their Replica Allagan ones have the best colors for dyeing. The Coat definitely needed a pair of trousers or breeches, and the Storm Elite ones were a perfect match for the black and white color scheme. The Scion Healer’s Highboots were another easy pick, especially with the red leather strap across the body of the coat, and for just a little more red, I added the Reading Glasses, which seemed to fit in with the coat better than the Elegant Rimless Glasses did.
The one thing I’m not happy with isn’t even the glamour’s fault at all. Once I got my roegadyn into the game, I found that I really didn’t care so much for the facial features I chose, and next time I end up doing a fem-roe Fantasia, I’ll definitely be reworking things. It can be rather tough to get those things right on a first try, though. I think for the next Fantasia Spotlight I do, I’ll probably make the character on another server somewhere so I can actually see them with proper in game lighting and in motion to hopefully avoid that in the future!
