Glamour Spotlight: Tanks #32

Although I’m more excited for Dancer personally—since it’s a better fit for Alahra than either Bard or Machinist—I’m actually most likely to level Gunbreaker before it, since I’m hoping it will be a good fit for Lynahra. I’ve been struggling to find her class identity pretty much since the moment of her creation in FFXIV, but Gunbreaker looks like it might solve a lot of the issues that I’ve had. So, on the first Sunday—which is alt day, more or less—of the expansion, I’ll be diving into Gunbreaker.

Naturally, I need to have a glamour ready, and as ever that’s trickier for Lynahra since I’ve not collected nearly the range of options that Alahra has for her. While it’s not unlikely that I’ll end up back on the Sky Rat Harness before too long, I wanted to see if I could make something different work for her, so I started browsing the possibilities a couple weekends ago. Rather quickly I settled on the Sky Pirate’s Coat of Fending—one step removed from the Sky Rat Harness, I suppose—but didn’t come back to actually find pieces to accompany it until the end of last week.

Glamour Components (Required Level: DRK/GNB/PLD/WAR 60)
Head: (none)
Body: Sky Pirate’s Coat of Fending
Hands: High Mythrite Gauntlets of Fending
Legs: Guardian Corps Skirt
Feet: High Mythrite Sabatons of Fending

The Coat is definitely far more refined than Lynahra’s usual attire, and with my recent feeling that she’s “leveled up” and gotten a little more serious, I thought I’d lean into that for this one. Finding things to use alongside the Coat proved a lot trickier than I imagined, though. While I’ve used it before, I didn’t notice then how much dye affects the character of the various metal bits across the whole thing. Metal pieces only rarely dye in a consistent way when you’re mixing and matching from various sets, and I couldn’t find anything that worked in any of Lynahra’s normal colors. After a lot of color experimentation, I settled on sticking with the base color scheme, since the gold would probably be easier to match than anything else.

After testing a ton of different options, I eventually settled on the High Mythrite set to round things out, since its gold accents worked pretty well with the coat. The pieces themselves have a fairly neutral tone outside of the gold, too, so they blended in rather nicely with everything else. From there, although I considered using something like the Adamantite Chain Hose of Fending (which I used when Alahra last wore the Sky Pirate’s Coat), I stuck with the Guardian Corps Skirt both for its general utility and because I’ve favored it specifically for Lynahra for a long time now.

I wasn’t able to find some form of headgear to go along with the look, though. The Pagos Bandana I’ve grown so fond of felt incredibly out of place with the refined look of the Sky Pirate’s Coat, and Lynahra doesn’t have the penchant for glasses that her sister does. Something like the Sky Pirate’s Beret of Aiming might have worked, but it is (naturally) not available for tanks. For now, I’m happy with this, and I know from experience with Red Mage and Samurai that these initial glamours may not long survive contact with the expansion, anyway!
