Glamour Spotlight: Ranged DPS #27

I got Dancer to 80 some time ago now, but at the time I was pretty burnt out on the job and didn’t sit down to create a new glamour for it in celebration. Doing so would have been quite the challenge, since the base form of Dancer’s Artifact Armor doesn’t match much of anything in the game, and I wasn’t enamored enough with the job to put in the effort. Over time, though, I started to soften on the job and recently spent some extra Tomestones and Eden tokens to shore up its gear for a test run through an Expert dungeon.

The run itself didn’t go so smoothly. I could barely remember how to play the job, and I didn’t roll a solid DPS partner, either. The glamour I put together before the run stuck with me, though, and I’ve been messing around on Dancer here and there to see if I can’t get used to it again in preparation for Patch 5.1. I’m not sure exactly whether upcoming class changes will pull me away from Dark Knight, but both Ninja and Dancer are high on my list of potential DPS secondaries, and thankfully I’ve got a glamour I think I’ll be happy with just in case I need it.

Glamour Components (Requirements: BRD/DNC/MCH 80, Female)
Weapons: Ronkan Tathlums
Head: Reading Glasses (Ul Brown)
Body: Edengate Mail of Aiming
Hands: Ronkan Armguards of Aiming
Legs: Skallic Bottoms of Aiming (Jet Black)
Feet: Ishgardian Thighboots (Jet Black)

Though I wasn’t expecting to, I fell in love with the Edengrace Mail almost immediately, wishing it was available to one of Alahra’s melee classes. It’s got a sleekness that seems rather fitting for Ninja in particular, but it also works rather well for Dancer, I think. It also fits in with the purple thing I’ve had going on for my other glamours lately, which made finding a lot of the companion pieces easy (since I already had an idea of what was working color-wise).

I needn’t go on about Alahra’s Reading Glasses at this point, of course, except to say that I hope we get some new glasses soon—it’s been quite a long time since we’ve gotten new ones! My normal Ul Brown worked just fine with the gold accents on the Edengrace Mail (though I did consider Dalamud Red to match the bits of red on the body), and so I focused more on sorting out the other pieces.

Though I also picked up the Edengrace Gauntlets while gearing up, I decided to use the Ronkan Armguards instead. Their gold matches that of the Mail fairly well, and I liked that they were both smaller and a better fit for the Ronkan Tathlums (since I’m stuck with them until I settle on which job is going to get my next Tomestone weapon). With a lot of black and gold now in the look, I kept the Ishgardian Thighboots black as well, and from there all I had to figure out which pair of shorts or skirt to use.

I went through the staples, from the Valentione Skirt to the Makai Markswoman’s Quartertights, but ultimately I decided that the Skallic Bottoms (which I’ve been using since the end of Stormblood) were the only thing with the right length. I’m still a fan of the way their tights give the boots the illusion of a little more thickness at the top, too, and in the end I didn’t see any reason to move away from something that was already working.

Of course, it remains to be seen how much mileage I get out of this look. We’ve got a new patch just over the horizon, which means new gear and (in this case at least) potential class changes. Both of those things could mean I never touch this glamour again, but it’s a really strong look for holding me over until then! I’m going to be taking a breather for a few days on the blog—both to take in the new patch at my own pace and just for a bit of a break after wrapping up all of the 5.0 gear set galleries—and after that’s done I hope to have some new glamours to post using whatever new gear Patch 5.1 brings!
