Glamour Spotlight: Ranged DPS #36

Like I mentioned a few glamours ago, I’ve hit the point where my weekly Tomestones can mostly be spent for glamour purposes now. I picked up the Scouting Coat first and had a pretty successful glamour attempt with it (and I eagerly await being able to dye the coat in 5.3). After that, though, I didn’t actually have any specific pieces I wanted to pick up next. While the Crystarium gear looks pretty nice in general, it’s pretty far from my normal aesthetic preferences. So, I actually sat on my Tomestones until I was less than a week away from capping them before deciding I’d see if I couldn’t do something with the Aiming equivalent of the Crystarium Coat.

Unfortunately, Aiming classes (or any others outside of Scouting, for that matter) have no equivalent to the Shire Emissary’s Gloves, which made using the version of the coat for Dancer pretty tricky. I searched and searched but couldn’t find a solid pair of long gloves to cover up the jacket’s bulky elbow guards. A big part of the trouble was dye, though: the colors on the jacket all defied my attempts to match them with available dyes. Even the brown leather straps are of a tone we can’t currently match, which took a large number of options that might have worked otherwise off of the table. I may need to wait until I can dye the coat itself to make it work for a glamour.

Glamour Components (Requirements: BRD/DNC/MCH 80, Female)
Weapon: Enchufla
Head: YorHA Type-51 Hood of Aiming (Pure White)
Body: Serge Gambison of Aiming (Pure White)
Hands: Marid Leather Gloves of Aiming
Legs: Skallic Bottoms of Aiming (Dark Purple)
Feet: Ishgardian Thighboots (Dark Purple)

So as often happens with these things, I ended up going in a rather different direction. While thumbing through the Market Board as I do, I tried on the Serge Gambison, an old Stormblood favorite, which reminded me of a glamour I’d been meaning to do for Ninja since 5.1. The YorHA hoods work really well with the gambisons, and I thought a great look for Ninja would be that hood and the Brightlinen Gambison. I never managed to get the drop for the Scouting Hood, though, so that never materialized. I do have the Aiming hood, though, and that let me put something together. Since the scarf on the Aiming version takes on a lighter shade with dye, I was somewhat limited in color options, but Pure White worked well enough there.

After that, the rest of the pieces weren’t too difficult to settle on. I’ve liked the Marid Leather Gloves for as long as I’ve liked the Serge Gambison, and while I started out with the plan of using them in Slate Grey to match those dyed bits of the top, I decided to keep their natural colors instead for some additional contrast. Boots and shorts were also easy pulls from my glamour staples, but rather than going with red there (or grey), I thought it would work best to emphasize the dark purple on the Gambison too, so that most of its colors had something else to pair with throughout the glamour.

As an added bonus, the gambison is also a solid color match for Enchufla. It doesn’t have any blue to work with those gems, but it does have some red and the right metallic shade, making it a solid fit (and a more interesting one than the Himation from my last Dancer glamour, honestly). The combined look is also a much more interesting one than what I would have done with Scouting gear (which almost assuredly would have been all black had I ever gotten the necessary hood). I can’t ever see Alahra ever wandering around in something like this in canon, but it’s definitely cool, and I think I’ll keep it for awhile!
